First Signs of Life

Well I had my first baby appointment today. It was a bittersweet memory, being back in the hospital I swore I'd never go to again! You see, Ava was in such a rush to enter the world (2 weeks early) that when I went to have her, I didn't have time to stop and call anyone. To top it off, I had her like REALLY early on a Saturday morning (2am) and we can't be released until the on call pediatrician checks the baby out. Well, he didn't show up until around 6pm on Monday night! I spent 3 long, grueling days in a hospital room with NO TV and NO PHONE and NO INTERNET!!! Just me and Ava. I had no way of sharing baby pictures with the world right after she was born. My husband of course came home and video-teleconferenced with all of his family on MSN and they drank to our good fortunes. Oh well... Those three days may well be some of the sweetest. I kept Ava tucked warm under the blankets near my heart and we bonded... sweet, silent squeaks in the middle of the night... Oh how I can't wait to do this again.

SO anyway... I showed up today a little nervous. 2 blocks from the parking lot and three flights of stairs to the OB/GYN office. There was the same doctor I had with Ava. I was a little disappointed that he didn't remember me! It's ONLY been 2 years :P Fortunately I didn't have a long wait. Routine first appointment exam, and then the ultrasound. Sadly, Nico wasn't there, as both our girls were home early today so he stayed with them. He didn't miss much though. At 6 weeks and 2 days, Baby #3 is a mere poppy seed in the womb. But the doctor focused in tight on the little shimmer of life that was the heartbeat, and all worries disappeared. Baby 3 is secured deep inside a perfectly formed sac and is growing just as he/she should. Accompanied with the shimmer of life was the great reveal that there is only ONE Baby 3 growing :)

Then it was over... 30 minutes after it started, the first appointment is one milestone behind me in this 9 month wait to meet the next baby. Please allow me to introduce our newest love... look CLOSELY, Baby 3 is small!
